Akhilesh spent Rs. 10.33cr for pension to Yash Bharti awardees

It was found by RTI query that the UP government has spent Rs. 10.32cr to give pension to 172 winners of the Yash Bharti awardees.

The award was given in recognition of their share in art, literature, films, journalism, sports and science.

They were awarded during Akhilesh Yadav’s rule.

The RTI query was filed by Mohd Khalid Jilani and was informed that 187 people have been awarded by Yash Bharti Award during the span of 1994-2016 and about 172 of them took pension on monthly basis.

The list has names of popular figures like Vishal Bhardwaj, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Raj Babbar, and his wife Nadira, Suresh Raina, Mohd Kaif, Kailash Kher, Founder of CMS schools Jagdish Gandhi and IPS officer Aparna Kumar.

There are also people like Amitabh, Jaya and Abhishek Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Medanta MD Naresh Trehan, journalist Vijay Kumar, flutist Hari Prasad Chaurasiya, shooter Jaspal Rana, wrestler Vishambhar Singh, Dr. Rakesh Yadav and volleyball player Ranveer Singh who refuse to take the pension.

The pension is given to the people who don’t need it and Jilani seeks for permission to stop pension so that funds aren’t wasted and he says “the money can be utilized in welfare projects.”

CM Adityanath ordered an investigation stating that if there was any misuse of the money, the pension will be stopped.

The awards were started by Mulayam Singh Yadav in 1994, halted by Mayawati and relaunched by Akhilesh Yadav in 2013.
