Many of us are fond of chanting sounds. We start our day by recoiling the sound of ‘Om’ which not only helps our health but has meditative effects. Meditative experts stated that the Sanskrit word ‘Aum’, with the course of time and travel, has become ‘Om’. This isn’t superficial and has a scientific background to it.
Aum is a tri-syllabic word whereas Om is monosyllabic. The reason being is that there is a difference in the pronunciation of the two. Om is pronounced the way it is written. Unlikely, Aum is pronounced as aa-uu-eemm.
‘O’ is a diphthong sound in Sanskrit which means that it is formed by the combination of two sounds ‘A’ and ‘U’. Transliteration is the reason behind the difference between the two variations, Aum and Om.
Concept of Anahat Nada
Anahat Nada means ‘unstruck sound’ which refers to the sound that does not get obstructed in the oral cavity while pronouncing. Aum is a sole kind of this chanting.
The notion behind chanting is that the sound produces vibration in our body which has a scientific base beneath. Scientist view the universe as a pool of energy and this converts the whole universe as an amalgamation of sounds.
Chanting of Aum gives an experience of vibration at three spots of the body:
AA chanting– causes a vibration around the navel and abdominal area, it is a waking state.
Chanting UU– you experience vibration around chest cavity and also in it, it is a dream state.
The chanting of EEMM, makes you experience the vibration in and around the throat and is related to the state of sleep. After one chanting of Aum, there is a pause which represents turiya i.e. infinite consciousness.
According to the Spiritual Experts, the sounds benefit the body in different ways and will become a part of your healthy life. Chanting of Aum should be not be practiced by oneself as a wrong mantra but should be learned by an expert, else it may have adverse effects on the body.
Believing in Chanting is the task of self. A study was conducted by Lady Irwin College on the athletes to trace the effects of chanting of Aum. An exponent of Aum chanting, Isha Foundation inspired the same. The study proved that chanting Aum had improved their heart rates, mobility and focus. It made athletes more hydrated than before and proved to be very beneficial.
